Why can't I accept my workspace invite?

Last updated July 19, 2026

An invite link opens a page that says You've been invited, with an Accept invitation button. If you're not signed in yet, you'll get Sign in and Create an account buttons first — both carry the invite with you, so you land back here afterwards. When accepting doesn't work, it's for one of the reasons below.

The invite was sent to a different email address

Invites are bound to the exact email the owner typed. If you open the link while signed in as someone else, the page shows an amber note naming both addresses, and accepting fails with This invite was sent to a different email address.

This is deliberate: a forwarded or leaked link must not let another account walk into the workspace with the invited person's permissions. Forwarding an invite to a colleague never works.

Fix: sign out, then sign in (or sign up) with the exact address the invite was sent to and open the link again. If you want to join under a different address, ask the owner to revoke this invite and send a new one to that address.

You're already a member of another workspace

An account can belong to exactly one workspace. If you're already a member somewhere else, accepting fails with You are already a member of another workspace.

Fix: the owner of your current workspace has to remove you before you can join a new one — see How to edit or remove a team member's access. Alternatively, use a separate account for the new workspace.

If the message says You are already a member of this workspace, you're in already. Just go to the dashboard; no acceptance needed.

The invite has expired

Invites are valid for 7 days from the moment they're sent. An expired link doesn't even show the accept screen — you get an Invite expired page instead.

Fix: ask the workspace owner to send a fresh invite. See How to invite team members.

The invite was revoked

If the owner cancelled the invite before you got round to it, the link shows Invite revoked.

Fix: ask the owner to send a new invite. Nothing you can do from your side.

The invite has already been accepted

Each invite works once. Opening a used link shows Already accepted.

If that was you, you're already in the workspace — sign in and go to the dashboard. If it wasn't you, tell the owner: someone else consumed the link, and they should check the member list on the Team page and remove anyone unexpected.

The token in the URL doesn't match any invite. Usually the link was truncated by an email client or chat app, or only part of it was copied.

Fix: copy the full URL from the original invite email, or ask for a new one.

You're inviting yourself to your own workspace

If you're signed in as the workspace owner and open your own invite link, accepting fails with You cannot join your own workspace. Owners already have full access — there's nothing to join.

Fix: open the link as the invited teammate, not as yourself. If you were testing the flow, use a different account.

You accepted, but you can't do anything

Sometimes acceptance succeeds and you land on the dashboard, but every action is refused with Team members aren't included in this workspace's current plan.

That's the seat gate, not a bug with your invite. Team seats are part of Growth and above, so a workspace on the Starter plan — or one whose trial has ended — has no seats for members. Your membership isn't deleted: the moment the owner picks up a plan that includes seats, your access returns with the same permissions you were given.

Fix: ask the workspace owner to upgrade. Only they see a paywall they can act on. See How to upgrade your plan and manage billing.
