How to connect your Meta (Facebook & Instagram) account
Last updated June 10, 2026
Connecting Meta is the first thing you do in uplads — it's what lets you pull in your ad accounts, Facebook Pages, and Instagram profiles so you can launch ads. The whole flow is a standard Facebook login that takes about a minute. Here's how it works and what to expect.
Start the Meta connection
You can connect Meta from two places, and both kick off the exact same secure login:
- Open Configuration from the left-hand navigation.
- Choose the Connections section.
- In the Meta Connection card, click the connect button (shown as Connect Meta).
If you're brand new and haven't connected anything yet, uplads also shows a Connect your Meta account screen during onboarding with the same Connect Meta button — clicking it does the same thing.
When you click connect, uplads redirects you to Facebook's official login dialog (facebook.com/.../dialog/oauth). Sign in with the Facebook account that has access to the ad accounts and Pages you want to use, review the permissions, and approve. You'll land back in uplads automatically once it's done.
Which permissions uplads requests and why
During the Facebook dialog you'll be asked to grant a set of permissions (scopes). uplads requests only what it needs to build and manage ads on your behalf:
- ads_management — create campaigns, ad sets, and ads, and edit them later.
- ads_read — read your existing campaigns and performance data.
- business_management — see the ad accounts and assets in your Business Manager.
- pages_show_list and pages_read_engagement — list your Facebook Pages and read the engagement needed to attach ads to a Page.
- instagram_basic — find the Instagram accounts linked to your Pages so ads can run on Instagram.
- read_insights — pull reporting and metrics for the Ads Manager and audit features.
- catalog_management — support catalog-based ad formats.
uplads never posts to your timeline or sends messages — these scopes are scoped to advertising.
Confirm which account is connected
After you approve, uplads stores the connection and brings you back to the dashboard. Return to Configuration → Connections and the Meta Connection card will now show:
- Account — the name of the connected Meta user.
- Connected — the date the connection was made.
- Token expires — when the access token will need refreshing (Meta tokens are time-limited).
If the token date ever reads Expired, you'll see a prompt to reauthorize. See How to reauthorize or disconnect your Meta account for that.
One Meta account per workspace
The Meta connection is a workspace-level connection: each workspace links to a single Meta account, and everyone on the team launches through it. You don't each connect your own Facebook login — the workspace owner connects once and the whole team shares that access.
Connecting again with a different Facebook account replaces the existing one for that workspace rather than adding a second. Team members with view-only configuration access can see the connection but can't change it — if Connections looks greyed out for you, that's expected, and this article explains why.
What syncs after connecting
Once connected, uplads reads your advertising assets straight from Meta — there's nothing extra to import:
- Ad accounts — every ad account you can access, selectable when you launch.
- Facebook Pages — the Pages you manage, used as the identity behind your ads.
- Instagram accounts — the Instagram profiles linked to those Pages, so ads can run on Instagram placements.
From here you're ready to go. Try the first-launch quickstart to launch your first ads, learn how to select your Page, campaign and ad sets, or connect Dropbox or Google Drive to import creatives.
