How to connect ClickUp for task and chat notifications

Last updated June 10, 2026

Connecting ClickUp lets uplads route launch and rule notifications straight into your team's workflow — either as comments on a task you already track, as messages in a ClickUp Chat channel, or both. This guide walks through the connection from OAuth to a verified test.

Connect your ClickUp workspace via OAuth

  1. Open Configuration, then the Connections section.
  2. Find the ClickUp card and click Connect ClickUp.
  3. You're sent to app.clickup.com, where you pick the workspace you want to authorize and grant uplads access.
  4. ClickUp redirects you back to uplads, and the card switches to a green Connected badge.

Only workspace owners — or members who have the configuration-edit permission — can connect or overwrite the ClickUp token. If the button sends you back with a "forbidden" message, see Why is configuration greyed out or read-only for me?.

ClickUp's OAuth only lets you choose a workspace, not a specific destination — so after you reconnect, uplads opens the picker automatically so you can finish setup.

Task mode posts every notification as a comment on one task you choose.

  1. On the connected card, in the Default task (for comments) row, click Pick (or Change).
  2. Paste the ClickUp task link (for example https://app.clickup.com/t/abc123) or just the task ID into the field.
  3. Click Find. uplads resolves the task to confirm it exists and shows you its name under "Comment on:".
  4. Confirm it's the right task, then click Use this task to save it.

If the task can't be resolved, double-check the link or ID and that it belongs to the workspace you connected.

Pick a default ClickUp chat channel

Chat mode posts notifications as messages in a ClickUp Chat channel — independent from the task above, so you can configure one, the other, or both.

  1. In the Default chat channel row, click Pick (or Change).
  2. uplads loads your available channels. Use the search box to filter, then select one.
  3. Click Save.

If no channels appear, make sure ClickUp Chat is enabled in your workspace, then reopen the picker.

Sending a test comment to verify the connection

Once a default task is set, the Test comment button becomes active (it stays disabled until a task is picked).

  1. Click Test comment.
  2. uplads posts a comment titled "uplads test comment" on your default task.
  3. You'll see a confirmation toast — open ClickUp to confirm it landed, then delete the test comment.

If nothing arrives, see Why am I not receiving Slack, ClickUp or email notifications?.

Understanding task mode never creates new tasks

This is the key thing to know about task mode: uplads never creates new tasks. Every task-mode notification is added as a comment on the single task you selected. That keeps your launch and rule activity threaded in one place instead of spawning dozens of tickets. To point notifications somewhere else, just change the default task to a different one.

Disconnecting or switching ClickUp workspaces

  • Switch workspaces: click Connect ClickUp again and authorize a different workspace. Because OAuth overwrites the stored token, you'll then re-pick your default task and chat channel.
  • Disconnect: click Disconnect on the card and confirm. You can reconnect anytime — your other notification channels are unaffected.

Where to go next

The workspace-level defaults you set here are the fallback. If you run multiple ad accounts and want each one to comment on its own task or post to its own channel, configure per-account routing in the Notifications tab — see How to set up notifications, daily digest and weekly audit.

You can also wire up other destinations: connect Slack for channel messages, or revisit how to connect your Meta account if you haven't linked an ad account yet.
