How to get TikTok In-Feed right
Design it right
TikTok In-Feed ads live in the For You feed as full-screen 9:16 video at 1080 x 1920 (minimum 540 x 960). They should look like TikTok content, not a repurposed commercial: shot vertically, native pacing, and a hook in the first second or two. TikTok accepts a range of files - MP4, MOV, MPEG, 3GP and AVI up to 500 MB - and 1:1 or 16:9 are technically supported, but 9:16 is the only ratio that fills the screen and feels native.
The common mistake
The safe-zone discipline is different from Meta's. TikTok's UI crowds the right side with the action rail (like, comment, share, profile) and the bottom with the caption, display name and CTA, so keep text and key visuals clear of the right edge and the bottom band. Captions run 1 to 100 characters with emojis allowed, and the display name is 2 to 20 characters with no emojis. Aim for 9 to 15 seconds of runtime even though up to 60 is allowed - TikTok's own guidance and creative performance both favor short, and the first frames decide whether the ad survives the scroll.
Check your creative against TikTok In-Feed
Drop your files into the free creative validator - it reads each file's dimensions in your browser, tells you which placements it covers, and flags the aspect ratio your set is missing. For a single file, the aspect ratio checker gives a per-placement verdict.
