How to get Facebook Feed right

Design it right

Facebook Feed is where most Meta budget still lands, so the ratio you export at directly decides how much screen your ad takes on a phone. Design at 4:5 (1080 x 1350): it is the tallest shape Feed allows, so it occupies the most vertical space and pushes the following post further down. A 1:1 square is fully supported and displays uncropped, but it is shorter, and 1.91:1 landscape shrinks the ad to a thin strip. The safe habit is to master at 4:5 and only fall back to 1:1 when the same file also has to serve a square-only placement.

⚠️

The common mistake

The most common Feed mistake is uploading a 9:16 Stories cut and letting Meta crop it to 4:5 automatically - the top and bottom of your framing vanish and you find out from a bad-looking ad in reporting. Keep the primary text under about 125 characters so it does not truncate behind a 'See more', and treat the headline as 27 characters of real estate even though up to 40 can show. Carousel cards are the one exception to the 4:5 rule: they must be 1:1 or they crop unpredictably from card to card.

Check your creative against Facebook Feed

Facebook Feed FAQ

What is the best aspect ratio for Facebook Feed ads?
4:5 (1080 x 1350). It is the tallest ratio Feed allows, so it takes the most vertical space on a mobile screen, which is where nearly all Feed impressions happen. Use 1:1 only when the same file also has to work in a square-only placement.
What size should a Facebook Feed image be?
Export at 1080 x 1350 pixels (4:5) as a JPG or PNG under 30 MB. Meta also accepts a 1440 x 1800 master for sharper display on high-density phones. The minimum width is 600 pixels, but going that low looks soft.
How long can a Facebook Feed video be?
Feed technically allows up to 241 minutes, but performance video should be far shorter - the first 3 seconds decide whether anyone keeps watching. Use MP4 or MOV with H.264, up to 4 GB, and aim well under a minute for a direct-response ad.
Why is my Facebook Feed ad getting cropped?
Because the file is taller than 4:5 - usually a 9:16 Stories cut uploaded to Feed. Meta crops anything taller than 4:5 back to 4:5 and anything wider than 1.91:1 on the sides. Export a dedicated 4:5 version so you control the crop instead of the algorithm.
How many characters of primary text show in Facebook Feed?
Roughly 125 characters before the text truncates behind a 'See more' link on mobile. Put the hook and any offer in that first line; anything after it is only read by people who already tapped to expand.

Other placement specs

One concept, every ratio, one ad

Once each concept has its 4:5 and 9:16 cuts, uplads reads the placement in every filename and merges them into a single multi-placement ad - the right cut in each surface - across a whole bulk launch.
