How to set up Threads placements for your ads

Last updated June 10, 2026

Threads is one of Meta's ad placements, but it only works when your ad creative knows which Threads profile to post as. uplads handles this with a single per-account setting: your Threads user ID. Set it once and every launch on that ad account can deliver to Threads automatically — no extra step in the launch wizard.

If you haven't connected Meta yet, do that first: see How to connect your Meta account.

What the Threads user ID does

The Threads user ID is the numeric ID of the Threads profile you want your ads to appear as. uplads stores it per ad account and, when present, attaches it to the ad creative at launch time (it becomes the threads_user_id on the ad's object story spec). That attachment is what lets Meta serve your ad in the Threads Feed placement using your profile.

It is stored per ad account, so each account you manage can have its own Threads profile — or none at all.

Where to set it in Configuration

  1. Open Configuration from the dashboard.
  2. In the left sidebar, select Ad defaults.
  3. Make sure the correct ad account is selected — this setting is saved per account.
  4. Scroll to the Threads card.
  5. Enter your numeric Threads User ID in the field (for example, 1234567890).
  6. Click Save.

A green Saved confirmation appears next to the button once it's stored. The value loads back into the field whenever you return to this card, so you can confirm or update it any time.

How it auto-enables Threads in the launch wizard

You don't toggle Threads on inside the launch wizard. When you start a launch on an ad account that has a Threads user ID saved, uplads pre-fills it into your launch automatically from your ad account settings. It fills the value only when it's empty, so a saved or restored draft is never overwritten.

When the launch runs, uplads passes that ID through to Meta on each ad creative. With the ID attached, Meta can deliver the creative to the Threads Feed placement alongside your other Meta placements. The result: Threads support is on by default for every launch on that account, with nothing extra to remember.

Prerequisites

  • A connected Meta account. See How to connect your Meta account.
  • An ad account selected in Configuration — the setting is saved against whichever account is active.
  • Your numeric Threads user ID, which comes from the Threads profile you want ads to run as.

What happens if it isn't set

If no Threads user ID is saved for the ad account, uplads simply doesn't attach one to your creatives. Your launch still runs normally on its other Meta placements (Facebook and Instagram feeds, Stories, Reels, and so on) — Threads delivery is just left out, because Meta has no Threads profile to serve the ad as.

To start using Threads placements later, come back to the Threads card on the Ad defaults section, add the ID, and Save. The next launch on that account picks it up automatically.
